I've had my eye on a some Patriot Extreme 2GB DDR2-800 Memory with 4-4-4-12 latency for about $220. But recently, I've come across several performance benchmarks that show that the difference between 667 and 800 is negligible, as well as 4-4-4-12 vs. 5-5-5-15. Is this true? If so, what is the benefit of having this supposedly "better" ram? I can easily get 2gb of PNY DDR2-677 at 5-5-5-15 for a good 70 bucks less. Is it smart to do this?

I don't really overclock, and if I do, its nothing extreme. I have a Core 2 Duo E6400 and the most I plan to overclock it is to 2.93Ghz if at all. Will I be OK with the DDR2-677 ram and what is the difference (if any) in gaming performance?
Thanks

Hmm the lower the latency timings the better the performance. However I would suggest going 800Mhz Corsair memory to make sure your overclock is stable, because that is actually quite a high overclock in terms of percentages, and would advise better cooling.

To sum it up for you the more Mhz the memory has the more you can overclock, as for finding low timings it depends on how much you are willing to spend, weigh it up with how much it means to you, because the difference between 4-4-4-12 and 5-5-5-15 is slight. Coming from personal experience overclocking Conroes, you will see significant gains in gaming performance with your mentioned overclock if it is thermally stable (good cooling).

almost each man or woman will say: once you've the added money, get it. in case you do, you ought to. it truly is now no longer worth having only 1GB RAM for later down the destiny. it truly is totally as a lot as you what you come back to a range to do with the computer: playing video games, improving snap pictures, etc or only doing elementary initiatives equivalent to creating use of word or Excel. Tech. Is perpetually replacing so it truly is needed to take that into interest also. It likely may be smart to flow with the 1GB to stay away from dropping the money now besides the undeniable fact that only the 2GB could you rather like it.

Better ram only helps if the rest of your system is either up to par or past par. Overall the difference will be little in most gaming cases.

The video card is much more important then the ram. Only put extra money in ram if your video card is very good. I would suggest having at least 800Mhz.

well think about it, they want you to spend an extra $130 for 133mhz bus speed. If you use common sense and do the match you should see that this is just a rip off scheme. Wait until the prices go down and just enjoy your 667mhz ones.
