You need muscle memory. Your fingers need to get the the "feel" of what you're playing and that takes time. I'm a music teacher and I tell students they don;t need to practice for an hour at a time because I don't think it works. Practice for 10 minutes at a time a few times a day and you'll get more out of it. Most people just get frustrated when they try to practice longer and then they get sloppy and accomplish nothing. When it feels like a big drag stop and do something else so you can come back fresh.

I agree with everything above. But remember to practice different parts. When you just feel fed up with a piece, go on to something else in that practice hour and come back to the original piece. You'll find that you understand it better each time you break from it!
A few minutes will not get you very far, trust me!

For a few minutes? You'll be in a punk band. For a few hours? You'll be in a band that can play Journey, Led Zep, etc.
