The word moron comes from the Greek "moron" meaning "dull," foolish or stupid.

Example: The word Oxymoron refers to a self-contradictory word or phrase, such as "jumbo shrimp" or "cruel kindness." The word itself means "sharp-dull."

Another oxymoron, using the root from "moron," is "sophomore."
"Soph" is the Greek root of "wisdom" (as in "philosophy" being a lover of wisdom)... so sophomore literally means "wise-dull (or foolish)."

When you are a sophomore, you are wiser than a freshman, yet green enough to still be somewhat foolish and in need of more wisdom.

Hope that helps.
I loved studying Greek and Latin roots and etymologies when I was in college!

A moron is someone who asks a question they already have the answer to.
Also see the movie "Dumb and Dumberer" or "Scary Movie" (1, 2 or 3) for prime examples.
