It annoys the crap out of me.

I don't mind that as much as OMG R U going 2 go 2 the movies. I understand that it is quick, but that is what annoys me the most. It makes me wonder whether these people can actually spell, or whether they are very young. Caps can be annoying too.

I think it's a great way to flash a little bit of personality. Of course, those can be overused, but it really gives you a strong clue to that person's personality if s/he is using them all the time.

Expression in writing has always been a problem. Some people have *always* felt that mere words can't convey all the emotions they want to express. In the 18th century, letters between friends often had things underlined (and double or even triple-underlined), with stars and punctuations and various symbols beside the basic alphabet. (-: And people gave them crap too.

I think you're just making yourself grumpy. Try to associate in groups where people are more uptight and reserved, and maybe you can fix that little crap problem you've got.

I've come to terms with the use of these type of 'text conventions'. Not being able to spell is something different. Mind you, I believe that they should only be used in appropriate situations - to speed up a typewritten response.

Anyway, as far as technology goes, it won't be too long before voice recognition technology makes the old keyboard a museum piece.

People use OMG and LOL too much. I guess they like using them so much because they can't type out the full words for them.

No, I don't think so. It's just a quick way of telling someone which reaction they've evoked - in a way it's a more honest response than a considered description.

its simply shorthand which makes typing faster and easier, these are about the only two i use, i still have trouble abbreviating words (eg: gr8, thanx) because i want the spelling to be right! lol
