Helium is a harmless gas. Inhaling it will not hurt you, however our lungs are made for oxygen.

Helium is an inert, non toxic gas.

However, it is not entirely safe to breathe it. The reason is that if you breathe too much you will deplete the oxygen in your lungs but not increase the carbon dioxide. Since your body judges whether you are suffocating on carbon dioxide concentration, it will think things are just fine and you will suffocate.

Medical grade Helium: Harmless.

Normal Helium (Like they use to inflate baloons): Contaminated with benzene, a lipophyillic carcinogen. Repeated exposure = not good.

no, if you sometimes inhale it, it makes your voice become funny and like a cartoon character :-) (lol), but you live by breathing oxygen, so don't inhale it or the ones that used to inflate balloons or stuff- it's dangerous if you continously inhale it ( the one that was used to inflate balloons one, not the normal ones)

It will make you sound like one of the muchkins from the Wizard of Oz. Short term exposure won't hurt you, but you do need oxygen to live.
