I might use it for a middle name, or as a first name with a middle name that would flow like Mai Alene or Mai Anna.

It sounds very exotic. I know a boy named Kai.

I named my daughter Maya (Mi-yuh). But just mai is kind of setting her up for alot of teasing. Kids can be cruel with relentless teasing and you just dont want your child to have low self esteem or emotional problems just because you gave them a very different name.

Maybe another option would be to give her the middle name Mai.

Good Luck and Congrats on the new baby. I know how hard it is to pick a name.

NO..I WORK FOR A DOCTOR AND I CAN'T BELIEVE THE NAMES THAT PEOPLE ARE NAMING THERE KIDS THESE DAYS. NO OFFENSE...I HAVE AN ODD NAME ALSO..AND IT IS SPELLED VERY DIFFERENTLY. I HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO BUY A NOTE PAD WITH MY NAME ON THE TOP OF IT. THEY DON'T MAKE THEM..NO BYCYCLE LISENCE PLATES FOR ME...THEY DON'T MAKE THEM IN ODD NAMES. AND NOW THAT I AM OLDER...NO ONE KNOWS HOW TO PRONOUNCE MY NAME. IF I TRY TO PURCHASE SOMETHING OVER THE PHONE, I ALWAYS END UP ARGUING BACK AND FORTH OVER HOW TO SPELL MY NAME. IT HAS BEEN HEADACHE. I EVEN RECIEVE CORRESPONDENCE IN THE MAIL FROM COMPANIES I HAVE ACCOUNTS WITH AND THEY CAN'T DECIFER IF I AM MALE OR FEMALE. IT'S NOTHING LIKE GETTING MAIL ADDRESSED TO MR. .....WHEN YOU ARE A WOMAN.

I think it is a cute name. Small and compact. I named my daughter Zuri even though other people didn't like the way it sounded. Mostly b/c they couldn't pronounce it properly.
