I don't think Shaq ever broke a backboard. The entire basketball hoop simply collapsed from the sheer weight of the Big Fella, but the backboard remained intact. Only Darryl Dawkins broke an NBA backboard to pieces, twice. Anyway, that game involving Shaq continued after several minutes. Modern basketball hoops are raised to its standard height by some hydraulic mechanism so it was not replaced. They simply raised the basket again and the game continued.

he did not break the back board, it was a game against the nets, in new jersey, it was stopped for 35 minuts or 40! the season as 1993-94 as i recall!
but if u did that, the game will continue after the board is changed!
