Most likely because they decided to ride on the coattails of Alex's success.
Daniel Balwin is good only in roles where he is sort of the "loveable oaf".
Stephen Baldwin should never be cast in the lead as he only works in very limited doses...roles that have worked for him have been minor ones where he didn't have to display much range or dialogue.
Would have to rank Billy Baldwin as the worst of the three...have never found him convincing in any role he has ever been in. He is to Alec as Laytoya Jackson is to Janet Jackson.
Adam Baldwin in a great actor, but is no relation to Alec Baldwin or any of his brothers.

Stephen isnt real bad, he's had some good roles.
William and Daniel play too few of roles to be taken seriously.
Only Alec has trully made a career out of acting.

check out Adam Baldwin's performance in the tv series 'Firefly"...as 'Jane'...the quick shooting merc.
He was made for that role...and in it he is perfect.
