i have a x1600 pro 256mb agp vid card i am wanting to buy the xfx 7600gt 256mb extreme agp vid card is this card better and is there any problems with the 7600gt cards

The 7600GT is a significably faster card, and an XFX extreme version will probably be overcloked from the factory. It should be about $150 if you search and the Power Supply requirements are not that high. So yes it is a good choice of a card.
Your ATIX1600 however is not that bad a card and is not an outdated card yet. I would advise to stick with it for a while unless you have games that won't run on that card. That way when you really need it you will probably find newer cards for that same price you will pay today.
