are there any other options besides purchasing another mattress, such as something that can go on top of the mattress?

OK i know everyone says buy a new one.. but we are not all that lucky to have that much pocket change.. when my girl was just getting out of diapers i found a great way to freshen up a mattress.. if hers is as bad as it sounds i would take the mattress outside on a sunny day.. get a bowl with hot water and liquid laundry soap and soak the fabric, let it stand about 10 Min's.. here is the trick.. get a wet/dry shop vac and vacuum up as much of the liquid as possible... do both sides than leave out for the sun to dry.. the soap is made to take out stains and smells.. but the sun does wonders too.. you might not get it completely clean but i have gotten all smells out.. after i got my mattress smelling good.. if my girl had another oops.. i would not take the mattress out each time.. i would do the same thing but then put a fan on the area i had to dry..

First, start with a zippered platic-type mattress cover. You really want to contain any old bedbugs or other nasties.

Spray the mattress down with lysol then zipper it up.

Next get a nice fluffy mattress pad, you can layer egg crate under the mattress pad for extra fluffiness. After mattress pad, layer a nice flannel fitted sheet to smooth out any leftover unevenness.

Finally, top off with regular linens.

Her bed will be so comfy you'll not have any more trouble getting her to go to bed!

I also have used a massage table warmer under my daughter's mattress pad during the winter. You can find them on massage supply websites and they come with timed controls for safety!

you don't say how old your daughter is. Younger children can sleep on foam mattresses that are less expensive. When we went looking for a mattress for our daughter this was suggesteed to us because of her size and age. I Know you can get mattress pads that are like a pull out cushion.

Yes. The pillow top. Try a air mattress, but you must buy one with air pumb that just plugs up. Anything might be better than spring mattresses. Good luck with that.

something on top of the mattress will only provide temporary relief. your daughter spends most of her life on the mattress. she deserves a good one. they don't have to be expensive. call a mattress store and make the investment.

Sometimes you can get a near new one at a Thrift Store. There are all kind of pads you can put on them. I use a foam layer and then a feather bed kind of pad and finish it off with a water resistant pad that goes over everthing. A used mattress that has alway been covered can be an excellent deal.

buy a plastic mattress cover, it should keep the mattress from getting spills and stains on it,keeping it in good shape.
