Who published James Freys book?? Was it the fact he is a spoiled rich kid that got the book published?? It was a great book,no matter if those things indeed happened to him or not the book touched base on the reality that most drug addicts live, all the things he wrote about are truth, maybe they didnt happen to him but they have happened, take it from me, I have a book that is non-fiction that will blow Freys away. How do I find a publisher//

Go to a book store like Barnes&Noble or Borders and get one of many books that are "Writers' Market" directories. You'll send a publisher a "treatment", which is a 10 page summary of the book. If they are interested, they'll likely ask for the first 50 pages of the book. Then they'll take it from there.

Be careful: Just because your story is unique doesn't mean it will sell. It still has to have all the characteristics of a well-written book, down to structure and writing ability. Get the book checked out by some proofreaders before sending out the treatment.

Yes,I agree with you. The James Frey book was excellent, I read the copy with the added note to the readers about the parts which were embellished. So i went in with my eyes open, so to speak. I found that the parts that were fiction did not change the fact that it was a brutally honest book about one mans struggle with drugs. It could of given a better picture of what his life was like before treatment. Which would of been a really graphic and raw way of showing how far he has come. And it would of made his victory more meaningfull. I wonder if he has or will write a sequel? I think the main downer for me was that he made it sound easier to fight addiction than it really is. I have read a book called "Don't Let Her See Me Cry" by Helen Barnacle . It as just so accurate and raw,and is about a woman addicted to heroin and ends up in jail , with her young daughter ,where her addiction got a lot worse before it got better. And how she eventually lost her daughter to the outside world. Eventually she gets her **** together, And now is a advocate for incarcerated women. James's book could of done with more of her rawness.
I don't think that his wealth has helped him to get his book to be published and successfull. Because Helen is not rich. And neither am I!! I think it was probably determination, and the fact that it would of been a major motivator to stay clean that kept him focused on his goal.
I am pleased that you have written a book on the same subject, because I am sure it will be an inspiration and great motivation to many many people.
And i think that honesty is the key, whereas James glossed over a lot of the really gritty stuff, and that just wont help someone who is living the book! The people who you hope to effect will appreciate your bluntness.
As to getting your book published I cant offer you much help as i am from Australia, But get a list of all the publishers and keep sending in your script and if it does not work one month send it again the next ,and so on until, someone takes notice! I find 'Bantum House','Gerald Duckworth'(london),'Temple House' ,"Five Mile Press '-Victoria Australia ,'Pan Mcmillian',or a publisher in Australia, who deals in non fiction 'Woodcliffe Publications'(16 Inglis St .,Woody Point., 4019 Qld ,Australia. Have benn very good to me. You are obviously a determined motivated person ,so dont give up!
I wish you the best of luck in your endevours, and thanks for writing a book that people NEED.

Seems like he should have sold it as a novel rather than a memoir. I don't agree that it was a great book. Frey is not a great writer and the book was tedious and not believable. I gotta give him credit for fooling Oprah though.
