Well they say that the best cure for phobias is exposure. My ex-girlfriend suffered from agoraphobia (fear of open spaces). And the only way we beat it was by going out further and further every weekend or so. So from my experiences I'd say find someone your comfortable and feel safe with and start with a public pond or something small that you know isn't going to have alot of snakes or other creatures in it. And the first few times go with your partner and just wade through the very shallow water at right by the sand. And day by day just go a little bit further in. I'm sure it's not the answer you wanted but it helped cure my ex. Good luck!!

The best way to get over your fears is to EDUCATE yourself on them. EG. Not all lakes/rivers are safe to swim in... for instance the Amazon... snakes, and pirahina... but the locals LEARN where the safe spots are and if deadly snakes are common in the area etc... Do a little homework and you will see that most of your fears are unfounded and maybe even unreasonable. As for needles, that is more of a reasonable fear... but if you asked a doctor what the chances of death are from a injection/blood draw, it would likely be 1 in a million. (Trust me... the build up is way worse than the actual "stick" ) Ask the nurse to pinch the area of injection... the pinch masks the pain and likely you wont even know you were stuck.

By getting used to something you fear a step at a time.Don't push yourself to hard.By the way you're not weird millions of people have phobias including myself(I have a phobia about spiders) so welcome to the club.If a phobia causes so many problems that it lowers the quality of your life then seek some type of professional help. A process of desensitization can be helpful.Ounce I had a fear of flying.I tried to visualize what it would be like to the best of my ability.I rehearsed it many times in my mind(vibration, acceleration, and the mild g forces when the plane took off). Many people have phobias and still live good lives. There is no shame having phobias so don't put yourself down. You are not weird

You are not wierd. Everyone has fears, and like most of your respondents have already said....face your fears.
If you are afraid of swimming in any body of water, take that chance and go for a swim. If there are signs that say "No Swimming" then don't go swimming in that water, cause that sign is there for your safety.
I wanted to drive interstate (over 3000km), but I could not find anyone to share the trip with me, and I was really afraid. But I took the chance and went on my own........The end result was I loved it. And I planned a longer trip 3 years later. I don't have any regrets because I faced my fears and it made me a stronger person.

i wont swim in a lake or river either, not for the 'attack' reason, they just dont look clean and you cant see the bottom, i will swim in the ocean though hmmm,, and needles well im not afraid of them either, the pain is short lived and not very bad, so just suck it up and face your fears, when your fears are not realised you will start to relax, baby steps though, dont jump straight into the river, just paddle a bit, then wade out a little and so on! good luck

Face your fears. Fear is a thing of the mind. When thinking about water instead of thinking about snakes and alligators think about bubbles and butterflies. I had a dread fear of birds, which at 6 ft. was silly, but I had a friend who does magic tricks and puts on shows for kids. He had trained doves and I asked him to let me touch them to show myself there was nothing wrong with birds. The same way with snakes. I handled snakes and have no fear of snakes now. You can do this. I believe in you. Talk to a councilor, it's not silly.

Best way to get over them is to face your fears. Basically make your self swim in the lake, until you get over that fear. Face your fears head on, don't let them control you.
