I went to a few awesome parties when I was younger. They were these neat parties where it's a mystery and it's kind of like Clue. When you give out the invitations, you have a list of characters for the kids to choose from and on the day of the party, they come dressed up like that character. There's a script to follow and they have to find out whodunit. It's hard to explain, but they are so much fun! It's like play pretend for older kids. I looked online for you and the closest thing I could find is this:

Hope this helps!!

Treasure Hunt !!!

Get $5 in Pennies, or $10 in pennies, If you can Build a Cardboard or simular Pirates Treasure Chest. Put the Pennies in the box and hide it. Write a clue that tells where it is, and hide this clue somewhere else. and write a clue that tells where to find this clue, and hide it, .../...........for as many clues as you want. for this age group you could have them searching around the neighbourhood for the clues. The last clue is given to the group leader , along with the rules..

Rule one, you will hunt as a group, and must read all clues as they are found as a group.
Rule 2 You will not cross anyones private property (so the neighbours don't get mad)

Rule 3 When the treasure is found it is to be devided equally and shared , and this will be done by the smallest player.

So, they take off as a group, and read each clue in turn as a group, this can take as much time as you make it, You can write on the first clue "The Next clue is under the rock in the back yard, and you must walk backward to it", Next can say "Next clue is in the front yard under a cardboard box and you must hop to it."

Get the idea, Make it fun, make it different, they all stay together so they are safe, they all get back at the same time, and there is an actual treasure to share.

For my daughter's 13th we did a disco. They're into their music, love to dance. Even the boys will want to be cool if there's girls they want to impress. You can even hire lights, one or several at a very reasonable price. Look up lighting hire in your local yellow pages etc. The music your daughter probably already has and if she has an older sibling, you could ask them to be the dj, as long as the 13yo doesn't think that will ruin her party. lol. Alternately, pre-record the whole thing then just pop the CD(s) in and let them go. Another alternative is to hire a karioke machine. Sure, everyone says karioke nights are corny, but deep down everyone loves them. Get a couple of girls to do a group thing to kick things off. Good luck.

Oh, and to avoid the "house being wrecked" thing, clear out the games room for it or hold it in the back yard. Cheers.

When my daughter turned 13, we set up a table and bought a heap of english muffins and put out ingredients to make mini pizzas then let all the kids make their own pizzas.

Then we made a small bonfire out the back and the kids made damper on a stick and cooked it in the fire and filled the damper with golden syrup or the ones that didnt want to do that just toasted marshmallows.

We got them all to bring a torch and took them for a walk in the dark with their torches down to the beach it was a lot of fun.

Depending on your cash flow, you can either take them to Chuck E. Cheese, or some arcade, or have a theme party in the yard,or at a friends house, Hopefully you aren't the only adult, have them throw around some ideas, and share in the cost,if not in cost, tell them to come over and help. Why can't the adults have a party at the same time, you can make it pot-luck, BBQ, it shouldn't be a headache for you, get creative!

If they're like any other 13 year old girls I've meet they probably don't want to be entertained as such. If you have a rumpus room or something like that a bunch of movies and junk food should provide them with everything they need to sit around and talk about boys, lol. As for the boys, they will probably be subjected to fingernail painting and a big drilling over who of their friends likes who at the moment.

Oh my god, today is my 13th birthday, and its actually strange i came on this question, but ill tell you what we ar doing... we are going to meet at the house, then all 6 of us go into the Cinema and watch a film with a few sweets, then after we are going to walk around town until our mum picks us up and Finally... we are going tryskirmishing... It is the coolest thing ever, its like Paintballing except its with lazer guns, and you go out to a 170 acre forest and you are split into two teams, and you play brilliant games like Capture the Flag.. its the best think EVER. I did it last year for my 12th birthday... oh and wish your son/Daughter a HAPPY BIRTHDAY from me... lol and i hope it all works out for him/her

Games, with cute prizes, like who can eat the donut, tied on a piece of string quickest. How about a treasure hunt? Movies, music, karaoke, lots of junk food. It's a dreadful age, to have to entertain, good luck
