So currently I'm studying to be a biomedical engineer and I found it interesting and what i wanted to focus on but now I've seem to have lost the passion for it plus I really dont have any friends here which makes me feel miserable, and im truly not happy here . I've seriously have been considering transferring and studying game programming since i have been playing video games since i was three and have always found it interesting, the problem is that I feel if i do transfer I will have wasted my parents money and they'll be mad at me for it. What should I do???

Sorry for the long question but this has really been bugging me
Thanks

you need to talk this over with your parents...not to ask permission but to let them know what is going on with you and to get this out in the open ...you should also take into consideration how long you have to go before you get your degree..if you are a year away...than my suggestion would be to go a head and finish this out than pursue your other interest...but if you are just starting..than maybe this would be the best time to switch ....

My brother was studying to be a biomedical engineer at Johns Hopkin....he got within half a semester of getting his degree and decided he wanted to be a writer.....and just quit....and yes, my parents were sadden by this occurrence..and given that they had paid around 50 grand out of their pocket (this was back in the early 80's) ...it was hard for them to accept..but they did and done so graciously.....for a factory worker this amount of money was pretty much their life savings ... I am glad to see that you have given some thought to this aspect..I am not sure my brother even gave any thought at all to this.... not out of meanness..he just kind of lives in a world of his own....

This is your life and you need to work toward a career that you can be happy in...as to my suggest of sticking with this if you are really close to a degree would be like a safeguard for you ...something that you can fall back on if need be...since my brother's Hopkin days ..he has attended many schools and repeated the pattern he started long ago....he is close to many things..but has a degree in none....he keeps changing his mind about what he wants to be....and this is not a path you would want to follow..whatever you decide ....... try to stay focused and finish what you start...being a professional student does nothing but lead to large debts and struggling to make ends meet......

as far as friends go...whether it be at the school you are at now..or another school...you have to get out and about a little and mingle with the crowd to make friends...you might try joining a club or participating in campus activities...once you are seen around more... people will approach you.....and if this isn't the case..you approach them...

...try not to stress yourself out over this..talk to your parents they will help you out....I wish you the best of luck!

You should consider the long term. College is temporary yet your career will span your life. Consider what industry you really want to be in and go for it.

Changing schools does not assure you that you will make friends there either. Most science and engineering students have few friends since we must spend so much time studying. This short term sacrafice pays off after graduation as we make significantly more money in the long run. A good way to make friends is to volunteer in the community doing something you enjoy. You meet people, learn skills and build self confidence.

Game programming makes a great hobby. It really isn't that difficult. You can pick up some books and learn it in your spare time.

Think it over carefully. Don't run away just because things are not looking good at the moment. Find ways to make it better.

Well this is what I can tell you. It seems to me that if you made a few friends then made you would not feel so miserable. If you wanted to study biomedical then do so. I bet once you get out more and talk to others school will not be so bad. Once you find a few friends or even just that one who will keep you going I bet you will find your love for biomedical once more.

again with the peer pressure thing.. i honestly think that you shoudln't transfer jus because you don't have any friends there.. but.. you mentioned you are not happy.. your parents want the best for you.. and they want you to be happy.. so even if you quite wasted time and money, most likely they would still understand.. maybe they would get bummed by first hearing it but after a while it would go away..
