It's proven safe by the FDA and the Council on Scientific Affairs of the American Medical Association
An American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Nutrition task force also has concluded that aspartame is safe for both the mother and developing baby. Aspartame is broken down in the body to the same components eaten daily in common diets by pregnant and breast feeding women. The variety of foods and beverages sweetened with aspartame can help satisfy a pregnant woman’s taste for “sweets” without adding extra calories, leaving room for more nutritious foods.
By the way, it's amazing how one will rush to an answer with "scientific proof" without actually doing research on it. FORMALDEHYDE my ***.

There are over 92 different health side effects associated with aspartame consumption. Aspartame dissolves into solution and can therefore travel throughout the body and deposit within any tissue(including breast tissue). The FDA isn’t the bad guy in this case – merely a few top FDA officials and corporate officers pulling strings under the table to get aspartame approvedin the 1970s and 1980s. The FDA commissioned a task force in 1977 to review aspartame safety. They submitted a 15,000-page document on their investigation and recommended NOT approving aspartame for public use until the brain tumor issue (including seizures) was resolved. They stated for the record: “We have uncovered serious deficiencies in Searle’s integrity…The cumulative findings of problems within and across the studies we investigated reveal a pattern of conduct which compromises the scientific integrity of the studies.”
Nevertheless, once a product has been approved for the public food supply, it takes many years, numerous deaths, and thousands (if not millions) of adverse reactions and personal suffering to rescend an FDA approval. It has taken over 30 years to reach the public with the truth about aspartame dangers, and aspartame is still not off the market today! Let's hope they do not slowly "phase"aspartame out to escape punishment for all the pain and suffering it has created in children and adults.

The reason why aspartame is bad for ANYONE is becuase your body metabolizes it into fermaldahyde. I don't think this reaches your milk supply. As long as you're using it in moderation, I'm sure it should be OK.
FYI, you should switch to SPLENDA. It doesn't contain aspartame because it's made from sugar! (:
Sorry, I didn't realize you were a guy.

Aspartame, an artificial sweetner, is just bad full stop and has recently been associated with symptoms similar to MS.

I don't eat/drink anything with aspartame in it anyway.
But it would depend on the amount you are having. ie One diet coke a day is probably not going to hurt anyone. However, if you use those artificial sweeteners, I would stop using them. For both your health and your baby's.
