I dont mean to be offensive but it bothers me to see people drive everywhere even to the store less than a 5 min walk from their home.. whats wrong with walking or biking it seems like people dont even consider walking to get somewhere anymore, if the car is broken they act like they are marooned on a desert island and when you metion they can walk where they need to go its like that would only be the last desperate resort. ... I mean even at my local variety store people pull right up on the sidewalk off the street as close as they can possibly get to the door so they dont have to walk over from the very close parking spaces a mere extra 10 feet away from the door. Whats up with people today do you think we rely too much on vehicles nowadays instead of using our own 2 feet and a heartbeat?

I currently live in Holland and the majority of people ride their bikes. I do it, too. Most Dutch neighborhoods have a market within walking distance, so when it's not raining we always walk or ride our bikes to the market. (I have to be a spoiled American in one small form lol)

As far as long distances go, we either drive or take the tram. However, when we're at home in America, we have no choice but to drive because where we live is about 30 miles from any stores. It just depends on where you live.

I've come to appreciate the value of a bike. It doesn't cost us anything for gas, parking is a breeze, it's great exercise and MOST importantly it's something we can do as a family, so even though my 4 year old doesn't understand the concept of high gas prices (we're currently paying about $6-$7 a gallon in gas) and traffic and the annoyances of finding parking (free parking is a rarity here!)... she does understand the joy of doing something as a family. It's definitely enriching for all of us in various ways!

Have a good day!

walking got overrated by several people once those "power walkers" at the mall showed up, darn those pesky old people, next thing you know bus fair is up, teens are being beaten up to feed a MacDonald's hot breakfast jones, its really sad that in today's world we have to fear the elderly....... yeah okay i can't even keep a straight face but i agree people have become lazy, if you have to go somewhere and its under a mile you should walk it people in large cities (IE new york) do it all the time, SO get up, get out, and live life!!

No but we do walk when we can here because we are near a downtown area and near stores. People have enough pressure, I think it should be up to science to help us along a little bit now.
