My religion forbids me from eating pork (and no I am not muslim). I think pigs were never meant to be eaten by man. If you do eat ham, you should try this experiment. Leave a piece of ham overnight in some water. When you come in the next morning there should be little worms swimming around. The reason is because the water opens up the pores in the ham and lets them out. Those worms are not good for you.

Well most animals have parasites. The only time that these worms do damage is when you get low quality pork that was raised on unprocessed feed. Beef(e.coli etc.) isn't exactly the best thing in the world either. Chicken(salmonella) and fish(methyl mercury) are pretty botched too, when undercooked. As a vegetarian I only have to watch out for the e.coli breakout in produce. Shoot, nowadays water will kill you. How about we just all stand here and breathe. Wait a minute Smog Smog everywhere and not a breath to take. Well let's all run for the nearest corner in a round room and rock back and forth in the fetal position!!!

I'm sure there are worms in pork, but there are microbes in all of the food we eat. Anyway it should be a matter of faith for you not to eat pork, and have nothing to do with the parasites. You really answered your own question. As far as I'm concerned nothing tastes better than that nice salty flavor of bacon, or a good ham!

Ewwww
Well I was planning on having some RO BBQ tomorrow. Now that I hear about these worms...lol
Yes I do. I just don't think about it. Eat my ham fat and greasy ham rice and pray. But my religion doesn't forbid me not to eat it. However while I was pregnant I didn't eat pork.
:D

I a going to educate you on how men manipulate other men, God has nothing to do with the following examples, other than to have His name used in the creation of slanderous lies.

A long time ago some greedy men decided they liked steak, and realized that there would be more beef for them, if they could convince a couple billion people not to eat cows. They conned the Hindu's into believing cows were sacred, not because cows were sacred, but because they wanted more beef around for their own greedy selfish selves.

They also liked the taste of pork, so they ran the same hustle on some others like Jews and Moslems. Don't eat pork, God says pigs are dirty animals, that leaves more pork for the greedy manipulators who sold you guys on that pile. Same goes for not eating meat on Fridays for you Catholics, and any other hustle attached to food. Greed and men manipulating other men, not God's word kept these lies in the doctrine of those religions.

The worms were insect larva, they didn't know the meat was sacred so they laid eggs on it, and your water killed the larva. See, divine will in action. The worms are actually good for you and are a higher source of protein than fat laden beef or pork.

More and more these days I feel I really don't want to eat animals at all. Your experiment is just one. Take a notice on how cattle is raised, especially veal. It is all together wrong what is done to chickens. All of it seems not right. I wish I would have not ever eaten any meat at all.
If you leave any food out it will eventually develop maggots. It's all pitiful this way of life.

If the ham if cooked well enough or cured properly there is no way the little worms could live. But your visual is a real stomach turner.

nope i dont (and yes i am muslim)
the reason its forbidden in islam is bcuz the medical science finds that there is a risk for various diseases as the pig is found to be a host for many parasites and potential diseases.

and pig's bodies contain MANY TOXINS, WORMS and LATENT DISEASES. Although some of these infestations are harbored in other animals, modern veterinarians say that pigs are far MORE PREDISPOSED to these illnesses than other animals. This could be because PIGS like to SCAVENGE and will eat ANY kind of food, INCLUDING dead insects, worms, rotting carcasses, reta (including their own), garbage, and other pigs.

when i was younger i ate pepporoni pizza (not knowing it was forbidden) and i thought it was very nasty and gross

No. I don't eat pork or any other flesh.

I don't see why there would be worms in ham since it is smoked and cured. They may be in a rump roast or something, but why a ham?
