I don't think Barry took steroids. Growth hormone and performance enhancing supplements maybe, but until MLB and/or an independent medical laboratory says otherwise with a positive test result, my answer would be no..... Maybe he has a good eye to see those pitches and has solid contact to enable those massive home runs. Could it be the Canadian maple bats?????
I shook Barry's hand every time he visited his friend at EA Sports when I worked there, and my hand is not the least bit inflated or muscular due to the so-called "clears or creams" that he was accused of using.
I'll reserve judgement until solid proof is presented to us.

This is a tricky question...which is why people are still talking about it.
-He has never been proven of anything
-Nobody other than Bonds and his provder(if there was one) will ever know if he did use steroids...before they were illegal in baseball
-A lot of players have been on the roids...even after they made it illegal
For a yes or no answer, I'm going to go with NO. He has only had 3 seasons with less than 20 HR's (one of which he had 5 in 14 games...2005) so it's not like he started hitting with power overnight. And there are people in MLB called "Trainers" that help players bulk up and lift more. Wierd concept, I know. The only reason he's getting singled out in this whole thing is because he's making a serious charge at the Home Run record.
I consider the HR record top 3 in MLB records. I rank it behind the 56 game hitting streak and hitting over .400 in a season. It's a big deal to MLB since it was set "before the steroid era."

" Yes he did. Go read the book "Game of Shadows". If this book was full of lies, the authors would be arrested. This hasn't happened. The only reason they got in trouble was because they wouldn't tell who leaked them the grand jury testimony. "
funny..the guy WHO DID ADMIT TO LEAKING..did go to jail..so..while that is NOT the reason why I feel he took or did not take...I also know that SEVERAL players took amphetamines, andro etc.
it is BASEBALL'S fault for allowing these drugs and NOT prohibiting them...THE PLAYERS were stuck in a weird deal..they were within the rules of the league and for that...I cannot hold them guilty of a rule that DID NOT exist...THE ATHLETES TOOK ADVANTAGE OF A LOOPHOLE in the same way as people who cheat on their taxes, is it right? NO....are we condoning it? no...but if the person that does it manages to pull it off long enough...BASEBALL AT LEAST won't notice...i wouldn't try that with the IRS...audits happen that way..
the fact is..it was legal at the time...still not right...but legal..so..while you can say "cheating" or a conflict of interest in the least...cheating or compromising the game..would mean that there was a law or rule against it...that was not the case...NOW there is...so under present rules those athletes are clean now...Bonds STILL has not tested positive regardless and the way I remember it...the rule is innocent till proven guilty...you can spin that in a thousand ways if you want..the end result is...until someone can show proof without a doubt and there is admittance either forced or otherwise...
He may have taken them, but it was not against the rules at the time. SO, there isn't anything we can do to him.
the investigation is not whether he took the cream or clear...we KNOW he took them..what we don't know EXACTLY...is whether he knew or not...we can speculate for years..and have...but..we'll find out soon enough...
the whole thing is old now and he hasn't used in some time now...let's move on..

Bonds did some Steriods but the major thing that he took was HGH (not a steriod) and that is what caused his feet and head to grow not steriods. The problem is that the striods Bonds and others took were not testable at the time and HGH is still not testable. Also untill the whole steriod thing broke they were not against the rules of baseball andtherefore they were not cheating in the strictest sence of the word. They did violate the spirit of the game though. I am a Bonds fan because he was a well rounded player before the steriods and HGH. Steriods will help you to hit the ball farther but will not help with the eye most of the players comfermed or suspected of using steriods had there strikeout to homerun ratio go up while Bonds had his drop.

First of all, yes. I believe Bonds took the roids. Between speculation, court documents, and the mass that he has put on in his later years, I can't believe anything else. However, being a former player and current coach, you have hit on the one thing that drives me crazy about ths whole ordeal. "Juicing" is not the reason that Barry is one of the greatest players to ever live. He has THRIVED because he gets good pitches to hit. Disregard his career walks numbers and look at his strikeouts per at bat. He does a better job than 99% of mojor league hitters at GETTING A GOOD PITCH TO HIT! Very few players (ichiro, and Tony Gwynn to name a couple) have had a career with as much patience as Bonds has had at the plate. There was a story published in Sports Illustrated (I think it was SI) about 10 years ago about Bonds. It told how he had a pitching machine at home and marked EVERY baseball with the number 1 or 2. He would take batting practice only hitting the 1's or only hitting the 2's. Pitch recognition and patience made him great.
By the way, I hope the selfish son of a ***** retires when he gets to one HR shy of the record. I can't stand him, but he is a great hitter.

He admitted it.
"Bonds told a U.S. grand jury that he used undetectable steroids known as "the cream" and "the clear," which he received from personal trainer Greg Anderson during the 2003 season. According to Bonds, the trainer told him the substances were the nutritional supplement flaxseed oil and a pain-relieving balm for the player's arthritis."
Whether you believe him when he says he didn't know they were steroids is up to you. I have a hard time believing that he hit his power peak when he was 37. He entered the leauge when he was 22 years old or around there. He always had good power but before he started working out with Greg Anderson, he had a season high of 46 HRs, which is still impressive. But his 73 came the year after he started working out with Anderson in 2000, who ended up being indicted by a grand jury for his role in the Blaco Steroids case.
Coincidence? What do you think?

Well, you tell me...he showed up at the 2001 spring training camp 45 pounds heavier than in October of 2000 and his body fat percentage had decreased. If you can think of another way for a man in his late 30's to gain 45 pounds of solid muscle in months, I'd sure like to hear it.
Also, Bonds has always had quick hands and a quick bat. But, now he's hitting the ball with the force of 45 pounds of solid muscle added to it. Those doubles off the wall and deep line drives are now going over the fence.
Think about it this way: Would the results of being hit by a car going 40mph be worse than a car going 20mph? Of course it would.
Most men gain weight in their late 30's, but 45 pounds of rock hard muscle in 3 months?
As far as negative attention: Mark McGwire, Jose Canseco, Sammy Sosa, Rafael Palmero and other have been getting plenty of negative attention. Bonds has just always been a dick, though. So he gets even more negative attention.

Do i think he took steriods? Yes
Do i care? Not so much
Bonds took steroids when they were not against baseball rules. Players in the 70s took greenies (amphetimines) to keep them awake ... players look for an edge .. and i dont have a problem with it
As far as what you say about making you hit a 95 mph fastball better ... it can .. it helps your confidence which is huge
read cansesco's book

let me guess you're a giants fan? you cant compare MJ at the end of his playing days to bonds. MJ didnt look like he added 20 pounds of muscle in his late 30s. and yes steroids can help someone smash a 95mph pitch 375 feet, its called strength gain. last the only reason bonds gets so much heat is because he holds the single season record and is about to break hammering hanks record, which by the way is a shame when bonds breaks it.

Personally i don't really care if Barry took steriods or not. i love watching those homeruns, and i'm sure everybody does. They are pros, and fans expect them to perform at top levels. Since we can't play ball at their level or inject ourselves with steriods, and thats where these pros come in. If he does use steriods just so he can perform better for our entertainment then we should just appreciate it. After all he sacrificing his own health inorder to perform at the fan's expectations.
