Well there is no such thing as a regular period unless you are on birth control, which regulates it. However, this is a bit more irregular than it should be and could cause her infertility problems. She should discuss birth control with her parents as a means to control her period. I did, I was having one every 3 months then for some reason started having them every other week. I use it strictly for regulation purposes but I struggled with the idea since in a way this is preventing the natural course. It may be a little forward for you to bring this up to her but mention the fact that it could cause problems later when she is trying to become a mother.

She should see a gynecologist and probably be tested for PCOS - Poly-Cystic Ovarian Syndrome. This can cause irregular periods as well a host of other problems. Birth control could help her have more "normal" periods, it is also part of the treatment for PCOS.

No matter what your friend should probably consult a doctor to make sure there isn't a problem of some kind causing her irregular periods.

It's normal to have an irregular period at that age but she should be checked by a doctor just to make sure everything is okay.

no, its abnormal.
tell her to see a gynae asap. to make sure everything is ok.
on the other hand, she might be pregnant tat she herself doesn't know....i m serious. i've met a 21 y/o girl who didn't bother to check even no period for 6 months, then was told that she was pregnant....6 months.....she was single and too late to terminate the pregnancy.
good luck to her.

She needs to be seen by a dr to have this evaluated and be checked to make sure that hormone imbalances aren't causing this problem.

May I ask how old your friend was when she started her period?
