They took my blood sample right after I had my home pregnancy test to confirm that I'm pregnant. I had several miscarriages and the doctor knows it. They called my husband that now they want to take my blood sample every week until week 11 to check something. Anyone know what they want to check with this weekly test? Well, I could ask them on Friday but I'm kind of freaking out right now.

Relax - don't freak out it will not do your or your baby any good.

This is TOTALLY NORMAL PROCEDURE for women with a history of repeated unexplained miscarriage.

They are measuring the level of Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in your blood - sometimes called the "pregnancy hormone".

This is the hormone that is made by the embryo and the placenta during the first trimester that helps regulate the level of progesterone which is critical for establishment of the pregnancy. Progesterone maintains the thick uterine lining that sustains the growing embryo. It also helps stop the mother's own immune system recognising the growing embryo as a "foreign body" and ejecting it.

During the first trimester the levels of hCG in the bloodstream can give caregivers a good indication that the pregnancy is progressing normally. The actual levels themsleves can vary widely from woman to woman, but what they will look for is a consistency in the rate of change of the levels - hopefully increasing as the weeks go by.

I hope everything goes well for you!

That's interesting. I'm sorry but I don't know the answer other than they can tell a lot from blood tests. If your freaking out, call the doctor tomorrow morning and ask the nurse why they'll do the test...what it will tell. I'm sure it has something to do with keeping you from having another miscarriage. Probably looking for some change that could happen they might be able to fix before you miscarry.

For your and your babies safety - don't freak out...make the call.

they could no longer inevitably be "extreme chance", yet they insist on having an ultrasound. i know I do. because i have miscarried once before, i pick to entice close early on what i'm coping with. If that is no longer accessible i might want to opt for to have a D&C right now ... no longer go by each of the horrors I did before, no longer understanding. My OB typically would not see everybody til 12 weeks, both. you could bypass in and get a blood try, if that is effective, he tells you to get prenatal supplementations. it truly is it. yet when someone's' insisting on an early ultrasound (like i might want to) he will do it. once you're fairly stressful, call back and ask to be considered merely to calm you down. Or, bypass to a women human beings's hospital or something and characteristic one finished. Oh, and that is no longer because he's overbooked. it truly is a TINY city. He typically has purely 6 or so sufferers at a time. it truly is merely how he does it. If a lady ASKS for an early appointment, he provides it. If no longer, he prefers to attend.

They are just checking to make sure that the levels of hCG continue to rise as expected... I believe the levels taper off at 10 or 11 weeks.

HCG levels?

I have no idea what the point would be, though. It sounds stressful, inconvenient, and painful for you, and, as you undoubtedly already know, there's not much to be done when one miscarries.

Very odd. Find out why; if it's just for the doctor to 'monitor' you -- for no good reason -- go ahead and tell them to leave you alone.

I AGREE THAT THEY ARE MONITORING YOUR BLOOD LEVELS FOR SOMETHING. MAYBE THEY WANT TO TRY AND DIAGNOSE WHY YOU ARE HAVING SO MANY MISCARRIAGES, AND HOPE TO PREVENT THAT HAPPENING AGAIN. PLEASE FOLLOW UP AND LET US KNOW WHAT THE DOCTOR TELLS YOU AT THE APPT.
I HOPE ALL TURNS OUT WELL FOR YOU AND YOUR HUSBAND.

My guess is HcG levels. To monitor them because of your history. If they start to fall, they can catch in time (hopefully) and give you shots of hormones.

Why are you even going to the ob every week? I remember that they only took my blood like three times.
