Any league will have their own ruleset (how particular stats are weighted points-wise, draft rules, roster breakdown rules, number of players, auction vs draft, etc). Here is a basic ruleset that yahoo fantasy baseball follows. Any private league, or a different public league will be different but this gives you a place to start for the basics:

First of all you learn to spell Fantasy. Then go to the site read the rules, then understand the rules. Register a team. Set the team. Makes trades and moves based on research and projected results to favor your team. It is that simple.
