Hi there
If you use blueyonder from virgin media, you can download pc guard which contains an anti spyware program as well as virus scanner, firewall etec. If not then a friend of mine uses spybot search and destroy and he says its good and its free to download. Internet explorer 7 has a pop blocker which you can enable by going to the Tools menu in Internet Explorer and going to the pop up blocker option and enable it. If you don't have internet explorer 7 and you've got windows xp service pack 2, you can download internet explorer 7 from microsoft.
Hope this helps
Scott

I recommend Lavasoft's Ad-Aware SE personal. It's free and very useful. It has an auto-update function and as far as I've been using it (2 years or so, now I've upgraded to pro version) it has never missed anything.
Be careful to run it as many times as you need to get rid of all spyware/adware. Then, restart computer and run it again. Also, be sure of running it at least once a week, and get a good Antivirus. My choice: NOD32.

In addition {to spybot & adaware} you should add CWShredder and AVG.
Always do the updates before running your programs.
After running these you need to go to system tools & do a disk clean up and then do a defrag.
Both of these can be found at: start, all programs, accessories, system tools. If you get a box asking which drive to defrag, C or D choose C. {also if your screensaver is set to come on after only a few minutes change that to 1 hour so the defrag can run easily.
It should speed up your computer a lot; be sure to run the programs about once a week if you surf the net very much.

You have spyware installed on your system. If you follow all the following steps it should get rid of your problem and prevent future problems. All programs listed are free.
---------------------------------------------------------
If you do not have spyware protection install:
AVG Antivirus 7.5 Free Edition
http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/avg-anti-virus-free/lng/us/tpl/v5
---------------------------------------------------------
Install Windows Defender (full time spyware protection)
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
---------------------------------------------------------
I recommend everyone install the following five programs and run weekly or at least monthly. You need all five. They are not a substitute for full time spyware and virus protection.
Ad-Aware SE Personal (update + full scan)
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php
Spybot Search & Destroy (update + immunize + scan)
Do not enable Tea Timer and SDHelper
After installation: update + scan + immunize
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html
SpywareBlaster: Update then open and click “enable all protection”.
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
SUPERAntiSpyware free version: (update + scan)
http://www.superantispyware.com/
CCleaner: Set to run when computer starts.
Removes tracking cookies, unneeded files
Place cookies you want to keep in the save list.
Do not run “Scan for Issues” (registry cleaner) unless you back up the registry first.
http://www.ccleaner.com/
-------------------------------------------------------------
Additional run this time and as needed.
Microsoft OneCare Live, run “full service scan”
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm
Malicious Software Removal Tool (run “full scan”)
http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx
Rootkit revealer: (advanced) Close all programs first and then run.
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/RootkitRevealer.mspx
Not all results will be malware! Google each item listed.
-----------------------------------------------------------
online scanner free
Trend Micro: HouseCall Free Scan http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
BitDefender Online Scanner http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html
Kaspersky Labs Online Scanner http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
