We have some extremely talented people but we just cant do it! Were all kinda unorganized and we never pick up where we left off and we end up where we started every practice..... Are we just meant to fail? or do we just need more practice? got any tips for us? Thanks a bunch!!!!! =P

your band needs a leader. A leader who is organized, planned, educated on the material, and who most importantly, has the trust, respect of the other band members. If your writing/song production/practice isn't working......change it! Have you ever tried hearing the song in your head and THEN writing the words. Just because you have a group of words, or notes, doesn't mean that you will automatically have a hit song. Sometimes artists have a certain melody, or lyrics for years before turning it into something......patience, practice, determination, artistry.

I think the longer you guys are together it will get easier. I would try coming up with a melody first. Maybe have someone play a favorite hook, or phrase..then everyone relax and jam over it..when you finally have some kind of structure, you may find a section rhythmically lends itself to a certain phrase or lyric. It may be alot to ask your guys to come up with a complete song, I know mine never did..They usually would come up with harmonies and changes that you make you feel like the song had a life of it's own..that's pretty awesome. Just give them the ball and let them run! good luck of course watch the alcohol levels.

first off, take charge in the practices.
when writing, just sit down and practice soloing or something. sometimes you will find a good riff, and use that as a musical subject. you can put it in any voicing you need, and write around that. from there, develop the subject to create a good melody for the lyrics.

when writing the song you should imagine yourself singing it.. dont just write all of your ideas down and then try to come up with a beat.. try to imagine it as if it was a song.. thats the only way it would work..

i would also suggest taking a day off of the band and telling them to just come up with some song ideas.. when you get everyone in a big group it can kind of distract them from the overall goal

you leave the lyrics till the end, first you complete the song with the drums piano guitars or whatever then the singer puts his parts in with his singing and writes his lyrics to go with the song.
