Check the Idle Control Valve.... chances are you can just take it off and clean it with a brush and some gasoline. or buy a new one, here is a link...

check air filter, feul system and if thats not it then go to walmart and get a bottle of feul injector cleaner

Uh, does it die when you put it into drive after a restart? You say it's carbureted? I thought those were TBI

how long since you tuned it up?.........distributor cap,rotor,wire,s, filter,s,p.c.v.valve,etc...........clean & tighten carb.bolt,s.....check ....map sensor,egr valve,oxygen sensor......check to make sure you don,t have any vacuum leak,s............maybe that old carbureator need,s a overhaul.....hope this help,s.......good luck!
