Ive worked at fast food places when I was young. And we get the fries Pre - cooked, and frozen. When we need some fries, we get a bag out of the deep freezer, pour some in the medal like Strainer, put it in the oil, cook it in the oil for two to three minutes. Take it out, and pour them on the French Fries Pan. Then we salt them. That is what I remember. Most fries get stale after 30 minutes, these get thrown away. I love fresh fries anytime.

Haha. I've "done time" as a manager at the McDonald's in town. Back in the day, the fries cooked for 7 minutes, 30 seconds. This obviously took too long for "fast" food standards, so they made a few changes in the laste 80's - early 90's.
Today, the fries come to the resturaunt pre-cooked and frozen. The fries are placed into a vegetable oil-filled vat, and cooked for exactly 3 minutes, 10 seconds.
Here are some other cook times, in case you're interested. (Yes, I remember way too much from my "mc"days).
Nuggets - 3:35
McChicken - 3:35
Chicken Selects - 5:45
Grilled Chicken - Used to be 8 minutes, but I've heard it's 6:30 now.
10:1 meat (small hamburger patties) - 34 seconds
4:1 meat (large meat patties... Quarter Pounders, ect) 104 seconds
Crispy Chicken - 4:30?
Fish Filet - 3:25
To correct the answer above, the fries are cooked for 3 minutes, 10 seconds.. Not 2:30. And as far as the 'salt-shaking' goes, McDonald's has "acu-shakers", which despense the same amount of salt every time... The "m"-shaped salt-shaking procedure has been void for years. (Yes.. there used to be a procedure for salt-shaking. How lame is that?)

Back in the day when I served time at McD's, the fry station took a little more than 3 minutes. When the timer buzzes, you had to take them out, shake the oil, dump 'em, and salt in the M shape. I actually got sun burnt on one arm from working the fries station on a very busy Saturday when I was 14. Dont know if they still have the same heat lamp or not. Our location also tested McD's pizza pockets, back in the 80s. Like Hot Pockets today. Back then, it was innovative. LOL.

2:30 seconds for cook and then they want the batch to be out of the store by 7 minutes. So, if after 7 minutes, we have fries we had to dump um. Then make fresh batches. But yeah, its pretty quick. Its kinda lame, the wanted us to salt the fries in an "M" shape. Ha ha.
