There are all kinds of people with varied backgrounds. They are spread out from 18 years to 100 years.Moreover, when they touch the key board they feel the silent unbridled freedom of asking questions that come to them,whether they are sublime or absurd. Some people don't like to do internal filtering or introspection.They like to tease others into eliciting a remark or some strange answer.
The dividing line between the two distinct classes of question is blurred and one doesn't know what to make of it. This might be the case with Yahoo people too. How would they filter them? They may filter out a few objectionable terms, but to filter out the scum and substance of the question and call is good or bad is difficult.
It is the primary duty of a questioner to exercise prudence before pressing the mouse button.

Asinine questions are posed on this portal for the same reason as they are posed in any forum. Human beings are not infallible and can be assinine at times. I'm not condoning it, and in fact find it quite as annoying as you obviously do, but we all have our faults and I guess I'm a bit more conservative in my comments about it for that reason. I'm careful about drawing attention to other people's faults, lest someone do the same to me.

2 reasons:
1. there are those who truly think they are intellectuals, yet manage the most ridiculous questions, believing they can fool us.
2. there are those who are so intellectual that their questions seem inane to the rest of us, brilliant though we claim to be.

The best reason I can presume is to earn points and become one of the most sought after person on 'Yahoo! Answers' for getting resolutions of question, no matter how out-of-context, ridiculous or stupid their answer may be.
