Well when you pronounce the word how many times do you think the word breaks up??...say it....lot-ter-y..obviously this is a real slow way of pronouncing it but i'd say that 9 times out of 10 its the best way to figure out how many syllables....the website that said it was two should never be trusted again for answers...ok??

3..Syllables are not letters. They are sounds.
It takes 3 separate sounds to pronounce the word lottery. Lot-Er-Ee.
The word bank has only one syllable. You say the word bank in one combined sound.
Nickle has two syllables. It takes you two sounds to say it. Nick-il
I hope this helps you in the future.

In America, three syllables: Lot-ter-y. I could also see it being pronounced with two, though: Lot-tree.
