We could also do without the following racist sports nicknames :
Vikings , Colonials , Senators , Minutemen , Buccaneers , Cowboys , Crusaders , Dukes , Dutchmen , Governors , Highlanders , Norse , Presidents , Quakers , Rebels , Saxons , Scots , Swedes , and Vandals .
Each of these examples belong to at least one university within the United States . All people of European origin are outraged by these hate filled portrayals of our history . We demand an immediate suspension of these team names and thier accompanying mascots .

No offense, but take a pill dude.....

The 69Th NY (Army) was also known as the "fighting Irish", this was one of the most decorated units in the Civil War

What's wrong with being called "fighting"???

Get a life.

Noticed you listed "Minutemen" up there as well. As a Minuteman, I'm honored to share the same name. The Minutemen were, and still are, heroes.

Thanks for offending both my race and my patriotism for my country.

Any time you wish, I'd be happy to take you to either border, and to Times Square and show you what real heroes are........

I think maybe you're overreacting a bit. In recent years, there has been some controversy about names like the redskins or the tomahawk chop. These things can clearly be offensive to Native Americans. Most of the names you mention, however, can hardly be construed as racist or controversial...unless the mascot for the Dutchman is clearly offensive in some way to Dutch people. I don't know, I'm not familiar with the team or the mascot you're referring to.

Most mascots and team names and logos are designed to be easily recognizable with the team or state or school with which they're associated.

I appreciate your concern about not offending anyone but somehow I don't think we are going to have a bunch of outraged Vikings or Governors protesting in front of sports arenas.

Really, thats a way to biased question to ask. Notre Dame, for example has been around for years, and their mascot has always been the Leprechaun with his fists raised. But by meaning fighting, they mean in their competitiveness in their academics, athletics, etc. Not by any means, were they being racist to Irish, implying that they are hot headed, or have bad tempers and like to start fights or whatever.

Not all people of European origin. Some of us are outraged by all the political correctness that is going around.

All of this is nonsense. When Illinois got rid of their mascot because it was a native american was just rediculous. You can't please everybody. These schools have had these names for years but people are trying to change that just because they say it offends them. They are just words. What is the big deal? My school mascot has a gun, but he doesn't shoot people.
