I have a hyper little dog and 2 cats. I live in the basement (1/2 duplex suite). I have a lovley suite and it is clean and homey (I think). It is very nice and 1 000 sqaure feet. But I feel nervous... like living in a basement is 'low class and poor' or having pets is 'dirty and makes people not want to be around'. Most of these feelings are from my mom's attitude, especilaly about the pets. How do I have her in my home with confidence tomorrow?

Just be yourself.
It will be nice to see how she reacts and the dog reacts to her. Dogs are a great judge.
She will talk to you about the cat litter and any other concerns you may have. So if you hide the cats how will she help give you great tips?

I know 2 midwifes and they all have at least one pet. And a few Douala's that have birds and dogs. (Birds are messy)

This is your home NOT your mothers!!!
You will do fine. Your the new mommy in town.

do you have a kennel you can keep the dog in so it isn't jumping on the lady? vaccum really well. Spray some fabreeze and keep the cats in the bed room. If you seem nervous about how your home is your guest may not be comfortable there either.
So when she gets there be high spirited like everything is normal and say hi come in have a seat.. don't apologize for anything out of place. That looks bad anyway because you knew she had plans to go over. If it wasn't already clean then why say anything to bring attention to it.
I'm not saying it isn't clean.. Just my thoughts on anything that you may be thinking.
Not sure about the basement thing because here in southeast Texas we have no basements. But I don't see anything wrong with living in a basement apartment set up. Your not the only one living in one and she has probably seen many so don't worry.

It is her job to see your home right? Why else would she be going over? I'm sure she has seen Worse and better in her days.

well, you are who you are...and if she's going to judge you on your home, do you really want her delivering your baby? I mean, she's going to have to see the home eventually right? I think basements are so cool, we have one and it's the best part of our home!! and pets are family to most people.

Anyway, since it's the first appointment, just maybe put the animals in your room when she first gets there, and then when you're showing her around, you can hold the hyper dog while they get acquianted.

One more suggestion, before your child is born, try try try to drop all the preconceptions from your mom, from houses to pets to children. It really is shackeling yourself to a lifestyle you probably don't want, and will limit your ability later. Have confidence in who you are!

God bless and good luck with your upcoming arrival!

I have a friend that lives in a basement suite downtown in the city that I live in and it is beautiful. He pays like 1200 dollars a month for it.
I am sure there is nothing for you to worry about. She has probably visited homes way worse than yours.
Don't make excuses for where you live. I am sure it is a perfectly nice home

Don't worry about it. I'm sure being a midwife she has seen alot of different living conditions. and there is nothing wrong with yours. Who is she to judge? I wouldn't stress. You shouldn't be stressing anyway since you are pregnant. You are supposed to be in the most relaxed state at home. Absolutely have her in your house with confidence. I'm sure you have worked hard for what you have and she has no place to say otherwise. Good luck!

I had my daughter with a midwife 21 years ago. She was the best. She was like an "earth mother". She shouldn't mind that you have animals. Everybody has animals now a days. She is not there to judge, she is there to help with your pregnancy. relax, I am sure everything will be fine. Good Luck.

remeber its your home and most people like pets. But try to be comfortable around her if you are nerveous then she will be nerveous. Just make her feel like she is really welcome and this will do the trick, remeber she is not coming to see the house she is coming to see you. Good luck with your baby and I wish you much happiness and joy.
