I am due on March 31st. Since I am having a scheduled C-section, they said I could schedule it anytime from the 24th on. My husband is going to be off work anyway from March 21st - 25th and I'd like to schedule the C-section 3 days earlier than the earliest date they gave me. The dr. said he'd consider it but wanted me to consider the risk. All my ultrasounds put the baby at 2-3 weeks ahead of schedule developmentwise anyways in size, etc. Would 3 days really cause me to be putting my baby at that much more risk or would it be okay to go ahead and bring it on the 21st? Please give me some pros and cons here. It would be easier to have it here where he's already off and we don't have to use additional vacation days.

First off, why can't he just bump his vacation days up a few so you can do it on the 24th. Ultrasounds can give or take 2 weeks. From the looks of the calendar, you could probably take the baby safely from the 17th on. The 17th would put you at 38 weeks, and that is considered full term. But listen to your OB and ask him for the cons. The one major con is the baby's lungs may not be fully developed (not likely at 38 weeks, but possible.) I had one born at 38 weeks exactly and one born at 37 weeks, both were fine and healthy.
Good luck to you though! :)

Well my question is why can't your husband change his dates off? Is his work really that mean?
The main thing about a baby being born early is that the lungs may not be fully developed, which could result in breathing problems. That is the only down side I see. And it's only 3 days, I dont think that would make that big of a difference. Secondly, are the ultra-sounds saying that you are actually due 2-3 weeks before the 31, or is it just saying that by the size? B/c the uterine home will start to deteriorate about 2 weeks after your due date, and also..if the baby is to late, it could pass it's first bowel movement in utero...which also means that it will swallow it's own waste. Do you have enough fluid and all? I think you will be fine having it 3 days early. Also, keep in mind that you will prob. be in the hospital for about 3 days...meaning your husband won't really get to be home with you. For example...if your husband has weekends off, have the c-section scheduled on a friday, so he can take that friday off, have sat & sun off and then use the other 4 days for the next week. He could even use one vacation day for the following fri and then have sat and sun off again. Good luck!

Why the scheduled c-section? Is yours a high-risk pregnancy or something??

I would definitely wait as long as possible. If labor hasn't begun naturally on it's own then your baby is NOT ready to be born. Mother nature is a much better predictor of the right time than you or your doctor. Ultrasounds can be wrong.

You should work your schedules around your baby. NOT your baby around your schedules.

the last trimester, the fetus grows in size. the last thing to develop are the lungs. this is generally the only complication. it's too bad that the baby can't deliver when IT'S ready.

3 days probably wont make too much difference especially when you consider celebrities like Kerry Katona get to deliver much earlier than their due dates because thet are "bit big" (yeah right ! dont believe it for one second)
Good Luck with your new babe, hope everything goes well :)

I would not think that 3 days would make a difference.
But, I am not a doctor and your doctor IS IN FACT A DOCTOR. LISTEN TO THE DOCTOR.
