The United States is a Republic which means its governance is by law. It is not a Democracy which is governance by the majority. As a country ruled by law, chaos can better be avoided.
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Care needs to be taken when making laws that these laws are created for protection instead of oppression of the citizens. Without public order, there is no quality of life, no sustenance, and no progress.

An advantage is that someone can't just randomly kill you without any consequences
Conversely a disadvantage is that I can't just randomly kill you without any consequences
