I have to mention it, but I need a positive tactful way of doing so. I don't want them to find out via fingerprinting.

I don't beleive that your are required to even remember it unless its related to the job you are applying for.

1. attempted arson
2. assault
3. conversion of property, (theft)
4. flying under the influence or posession.

Only give them information that goes back as far as they ask. It's the airlines, so they will have some pretty specific information to do passenger safety and probably the patriot act, but it should be in WRITING on the application. Not a passing statement in an interview.

So they may ask, have you ever in your history (which means since the age of 18) been convicted of a violent crime (which covers a ton of stuff), you would need to answer yes (assuming your crime is violent in this example.)

If they ask have you been convicted of anything in the last seven years, you can truthfully answer "no".

Oh yeah, and the fair credit reporting act makes it illegal for them to go further back than seven years for some crime types.

You don't have to mention it. If they know about it, they will ask. Then make it seem trivial and NINE years ago but do not make any excuses. Accept the blame and consequences like an adult. Also mention that that you were a kid then and you don't do that kind of stuff anymore. Remember, even a traffic ticket is a misdemeanor.

That should not be on your record, don't say anything about it. Everybody have done something wrong in their life, but 9 years ago, I know you have learned from your mistakes. Good luck with job. That's a good job to pass up for a minor mistake 9 years ago.

I really don't think it will show up. It is very old, and it is not a felony. Most job applications ask were you ever convicted of a felony. I don't think I would say anything.

If it's on the application they usually ask what happened on there too. So, when they see it they will ask , just be honest and don't try to make excuses if there are none they can see that a mile away. Good luck.

Misdemeanor charges do not show up on criminal background checks. Only criminal convictions appear. Read the wording carefully. They ask if you have any previous CRIMINIAL CONVICTIONS!! That does not mean misdemeanors. Again, misdemeanors don't show up on criminal checks anyway. Also, it's CONVICTIONS! If you were charged but it was dropped or you were found not guilty, you don't need to disclose that. You may have once been charged with a criminal offence but if you were found not guilty it's not on your criminal record either.

Federal law requires only the past 7 years so it probobly won't be there. I would follow a don't ask don't tell policy. Let them ask questions and don't volunteer info. Let them ask what they want to know.

Let them bring it up if it was mentioned in your application. If they do, tell them the truth. If they don't ask, don't tell.
