Can anyone tell me how to use the Proxy Server Settings in the Internet(tools->Internet OPtions->Lan Settings-> Explorer? How can this be useful for a Wired LAN of 12 Pcs?....I would really appreciate if someone could explain this to me in detail.....Thanks in advance

depends on your ISP. you wouldn't need a proxy server if you have cable internet but you may need one if you have DSL. A proxy server is another computer that you go through before you get to the internet. It could slow your surfing experience.

I don't think it would have an effect on your internal network, only when you are surfing outside your network (Internet).

the proxy settings under the lan settings is used when you are in a network and you are all connected to one server. That server is the one that is actually connected to the internet. In other words, when you are browsing the internet, your browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Netscape, Opera and etc) will request for the website from the proxy. The proxy will then make a request to your ISP and get the website. It will then send that website to your browser.

A proxy is used to protect the PCs which are in the network from outside attack from crackers, and etc, block the users in the network from accessing specific sites and etc.
