If you at least watch the news then you know that Microsoft has released its new hardware called vista. Now if you want to get a good laptop I would get a Vista ready computer(if you don't mind a price tag). For brand I would ask for a Dell because those are computers that I can recommend for raw processing power. Since Dells have that processing power you can be sure to have a couple Gigabytes(GB) left before you run out of memory. As far as those programs any computer can have them if it is updated and has enough memory just ask your sales personnel where you could find them.

Anything like what you want is going to have a pretty short battery life. Based on your demand for graphics have you considered a mac? If not Lenovo which is IBMs spin off can configure a decent laptop for very basic graphic work. If you are using something like wildfire, pro-e, other CADS you should consider a work station. If you have to be mobile there are several rugedized work stations out there now in the sub 8k range.

HP has a new laptop out for around $1300. It's perfect for Autocad, but you may want to use a mouse with it instead of the touch pad that it comes with.
