If you have "city water", it is already treated and should be okay. If you suspect a leak is contaminating your water, call the company that provides your water and they will probably do a test to see if there is a leak.

If you have well or cistern water, you should be able to take a sample to your county health department for analysis. You might want to call them before you make the trip to give them a sample to see if there are any special requirements and to determine of they are the ones to see. In my area, they charge a small fee for this testing.
