for first year attorneys, market rates for big firms in big cities range from $125k up to $160k in NYC. The vast majority of firms do not pay this for their first years, however. a small firm in a big city may pay $65k-$90k.

it only goes up from there. partners in firms may make millions.

on the other hand, prosecutors and other government attorneys top out at less than $200k, and often start at $40k or so.

That depends on how good the lawyer is. If the lawyer wins most of their cases, he/she can be paid way more than any of those choices.
