I wouldn't water them at all.

they are quite susceptible to root-rot.

but be sure and fertilize your metaphors once a month.

Plant the allegories in a bed of hummus and cinnamon-raisin bread near the windows of the soul, but never in direct sunlight. Water them liberally with honeydew and caraway. When they begin to darken, cast chicken bones and ice cream into the mix and watch the streaming video at lunchtime.
