I don't believe it was a waste at all.

Like someone mentioned previously it was a way for the WWE to get into the reality television craze, get on MTV and possibly gain new fans. I think it could have been done better. I feel they should have focused more on the actual training and in ring work to really show what kind of hard work it takes before even making it to the "big time".

While it is true that Johnny Nitro is the most successful one to come out of the Tough Enough franchise there were others who had decent runs, and still a few left who might have a career in wrestling.

Chris Nowinski was doing fairly well for himself before he suffered from post-concussion syndrome.

Josh Mathews is an announcer on Smackdown.

Maven had a good 3 or 4 year run...Rookie of the Year, Hardcore Champion 3 times.

Nidia did pretty well as well, mainly as a valet.

Jackie Gayda, besides from being smoking hot, also did very well as a valet. She is still young enough that she could comeback after her recent pregnancy.

Kenny King never really made in the WWE but he had some good matches in TNA.

Linda Miles, never understood how she won, did alright as the manager of the Basham Brothers.

Matt Morgan had a couple different trials but never really caught on. I think he could still make it because he has the size that the WWE loves.

Matt Cappotelli I think could have been the best of the bunch but health issues have sidelined him.

Nick Mitchell played a major role as a member of The Spirit Squad.

Mike Mizanin is active and who knows what will happen with him. Probably not too much when it comes to actual in ring ability but he has the ability to be a manager or some other role that requires less physical ability and relies more on speaking.

Daniel Rodimer recently signed and with some more training he could be good. Like Morgan he has the size that Vince likes in his wrestlers.

The Boogeyman came from the last Tough Enough but was kicked off due to being too old.

Johnny Nitro and Matt Cappotelli (Still has a contract but, is battling brain cancer) are the only winners left but, there are still several people in the WWE from Tough Enough.

Mitch from the Spirit Squad (currently in OVW)
Boogeyman
Melina
Chris Nowinski (out with injuries)
Josh Matthews (doesn't wrestle but, announces)
Mike Mizanin (a.k.a. The Miz)
Daniel Rodimer (currently in OVW)
Shad of Cryme Tyme

all of these were on Tough Enough and are now in the WWE. While the winners may not have done much you could argue the pressure on them (outside of Nitro and Matt Cappotelli) caused their failure.

The show wasn't a waste, but the way the winners were handled was bad.

i think it was. puter really didn't have a chance in wwe, although he did look more like a ufc fighter than a wrestler. i don't think they ever found a good story for maven, and i liked midia and jackie. linda she was ok. i guess the wwe was tryng to just fill a few spots til thier current guys could build thier names and draw in the big money. but johnny nitro isn't the only one from tough enough to survive. josh mathews from season 1 works with wwe 24/7, mitch from the spirit squad was on the one million dollar tough enough. and don't forget miz

Tough Enough never really produced any stars. Stars meaning you could keep the crowd's interest for 20 minutes. Johnny Nitro is the only exception. He needs to break away from his tag team partner(the name slips me right now) to be a more successful star in the business

Tough Enough served its purpose... which was for Vince McMahon to cash in on the Reality TV craze... and fans ate it up. You couldn't expect them to be successful in wrestling just because they were on a tv reality shows... most guys/gals go through years in developmental wrestling leagues to develop the mic skills and wrestling know how to be successful.

Tough Enough was created to cash in on the reality tv show craze, in that respect, it worked.
Also, I'm pretty sure Boogeyman was on Tough Enough, but he got disqualified after they found out he lied about his age to get on
