Since you’ve decided to bring money, work and person together, it is the value of the person that matters not the value of the money. This is especially the case when the term work is brought to the limelight; i.e. it is what makes the man that is his value of the man, which is the results of education attained or his "informal" dexterity or techniques of production in goods and services that brings the money, the quantum of the work notwithstanding.
However, we as persons work because we want the money (i.e. the second part of the sentence). Yet for some other people, they think the “the money for the work” is quite distinct from the first phrase. In actuality, they mean just the same thing. “Money is for work” and work is for money is the same thing and links money and work.

I work to support my family, money is what gets people to do things. You can trade and barter but sometimes people will screw you over and not hold up their end. Cash is like a coupon to get people to do things.
