Hi! I hope you and your molly will be mommys! here is a conversation on the webiste http://community.discovery.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/2341058/m/6831985038 that I think will help you! Again, good luck! *guppylover*

Hey Everyone, I have a pregnany molly and I wanted to know what I should be looking for to see how close she is to having babies. She's swimming kind of funny, and she stays to herself a lot in the tank. I know she's pregnant but I'm not sure when she is going to have them. Anything I should be looking for??

She gets reallllly big! Do you have one of those baby nets? Its a screen little tank that goes in the big tank clipped to the top of the tank. Baby fish do not need their mothers. Put mom in there now. Other fish will eat the babies. add a little floating real plants. That way you dont have to stress her by putting in a different tank, and if you start soon, you can feed her. Some female mollies are fine with babies- some will eat them. If she starts, put her in the regular part of the tank and leave the babies. I usually have to remove the mom. Do not clean the tank now. Even a water change can alter the ph of the tank enough to k*ill the babies.

thanks for the info. I've been watching her today. She seems really lathargic. She's staying at the bottom of the tank. I have a breeding net that i got when i found 3 babies that my dalmation had. They are now in a breeder tank. I'm going to have to put her in there. I think my female dalmation is pregnant again too. They are both being lazy and hanging out at the very bottom of the tank in the plants. I thought they were sick but I guess they are close to making me a proud mother...lol. Two pregnant fish...that's a lot of babies...lol. Do they normally stay to themselves and stay at the bottom of the tank when they are getting close to having babies?

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh- if they are hiding in the plants, then its getting close!
YOu need a second net because the dalmation will eat the mollies babies and vice versa. I always remove the adults when they are done anyway. after they have them, you can put the babies together.

I'm so excited....I'm ready to watch her have them. Last time I woke up to 3 babies and this time I'm going to make sure I see them be born. She didn't like being caught but I got her in the net and she's made herself right at home. Do they die after they have the babies, because my other female died right after having babies. I hope that doesn't happen to this one cause i'm particulary fond of her...She was my first molly I ever got...My other 2 surviving babies are growing up fast and are starting to get their spots on them. Tiny lil things. Thank you SOOO Much for all the advice you've given me. It's been a HUGE help. Now I can't wait to be a mama!!!

NOoooooooooo they dont die after they have them, but watch her to make sure she doesnt eat them. They dont have maternal instinct at all.
Your other one must have had another problem. That is a little strange- healthy enough to have live born babies, but not to survive. Maybe she wasnt eating food. Feed momma to keep her fed, and not interested in the babies until all are born and you can take her out.

Will do...Again thank you so much for all your help. It is much appreciated!!!!

how many babies did you have mom???? lol

We have 13....She had them during the night and 13 was all we could manage to round up the next morning. They are so cute....Very happy and my molly is doing great. She's back to swimming around and eating with the others. Thanks for all your help!!!

Sounds like a winner MAMA.. lollllllll.. she should be back to normal just hungry. You can take her out of the babies now, and just crush up really tiny the flakes for the babies. You can use your tropical food flakes.

Found 4 more tonight. I went out and bought some freeze dried blood worms and some fry food that is in a liquid form...I think it's ok for them to eat it. They seem to like it i guess. Got lots of little black things swimming around in the breeder tank. Already got homes for most of them. Gunna keep a few for myself and the rest are going to friends who want to give them a good home when they are big. Thanks for all your help. Those little guys amaze me!!! So fun to watch them. Can't wait for the next group to come along!
