My brother had two mini hamsters. One of them recently died. But we don't know why. He was being kind of lazy and he ate alot so he was fat. He started sleeping alot and didn't seem to have much energy. Then we found him lying on his back one day, dead. Does anyone know anything about hamsters and what might have happened?

They only live at best 2.5 - 3 years, he likely died of old age.
Or died from heart failure cause he was too fat.

sorry to hear about your brothers hamster. There are many things that could of caused this. Firstly if he was over 2 years old it could be old age. But also if he was fat and had no energy that could of caused heart faliure ( obesity affects all animals in the same way it would do humans) hamsters are very delicate and are prone to picking up infections and desieses very easily so it is important to be very thorogh when cleaning out the cage at least once or twice a week. Is this how often he cleaned them out? I hope this may help him in some way to find an answer

Well, there is the possibility, beings you said he was fat, that he may have become diabetic. It's more common in overweight animals than you would think.
