I work as a programmer, and I heard of one person at work who is able to telecommute 4/5 days of the week. So I became curious about how telecommuting is perceived across all industries. I would love to get away from my claustrophobic cube. What kinds of jobs lend themselves to telecommuting? Any other jobs besides computer programming types?

I'd love to migrate to web development. Are there ample telecommute job opportunities in web development?

Any job where you work in your office at least 50% of the day, and you are solo for that time would lend itself to at least 2/5 telecommuting time.

I predict it will get more popular. Walmart is starting to give preference to vendors who are going "green". Walmart is the 800lbs gorilla, so they tend to set trends. Plus telecommuting is the easiest and most efficient way to go green, all you need is a laptop and internet to server connection.
