When something bad happens to me I try to evaluate how bad it really is. Is it really very bad? Is it going to be equally bad in a week, two weeks, a month? It gives me perspective. I try to remember things from the past that back then seemed like real disasters. But I survived them, they don't hurt any longer. Life goes on. Every cloud has a silver lining that you don't notice right now. But eventually you will. Plus I believe that every painful event has some lesson in it, that we can benefit from it in the future. Try not to dwell on the negative, bad thoughts tend to self feed, try to distract yourself with something you enjoy. I understand that it is not easy but it can be done. Think of the bad moment as something that will pass. I guarantee that it will. I can also guarantee that good things will come your way. And bad things again. That's life. If you adopt this philosophical attitude it will be easier to cope with bad stuff and enjoy the good stuff to the fullest. Good luck :-)

If something bad happens I get bummed out until it becomes positive again. Like if I lose my wallet I'll be bummed until I get a new wallet with new ID. Unhappyness is a symptom of a situation that needs mending.
I see the positive after I have changed the outcome to a more positive one.

Rather than just looking for the positive, I look for the meaning and the lessons.
It is human to fall down when you take a hit.
It is courageous to stand up again.
It is wise to examine the variables that led to the situation.
How much of it did you yourself cause?
How much was beyond your control?
Did you learn something of value?
Did this seemingly bad occurrence stop you from doing something else?
Maybe, your forced change of plans brought you something good.

i try to see the positive in everything, as soon as negativity hits you just look at it and see what it really is, just a collection of thoughts in your own head, you can control those thoughts,
things could always be worse unless your being eaten alive or beaten or something like that
its not always easy though

I do it all the time. Keep doing this and like any other exercise it will become easier and more effective sooner as you keep doing it. Just like bad habits become ingrained so do good ones. Good for you that you've discovered this most important aspect of inner peace. It's the biggest gift you can give yourself.

Short of backing over your child with a truck, there is little excuse not to be an optimist. Otherwise your just sitting in poop. You look bad and smell and as long as you sit there you still be stinking like poop no matter how much you whale..

I tell myself there must be something I can learn from the situation, so that I can maybe stop it from happening again.
