the country is hurt by lies. democracies are governed by the people, who deserve to know what is going on.

The answer is that it's already happening.
UFOs do exist amongst other things but the Gov. lies about it so people won't go jumping out of windows and killing their selves over it.Also the gov. lie's about these things cause their afraid it would cause the information to get in the wrong hands and we would be destroyed from it.
It could also effect our economy.

Depends. Am I lying for me, or actually for the national good?

Suppose I knew for certain the world was going to explode in 3 days. I wouldn't tell anyone, and I'd lie if asked.

No, not at all, I think it is okay to keep secret that what is in the national best interest, but that does not excuse lying to take the country to a war.

It's according to how much you believe in the country that you'd be lying for. all legal matters aside, do what you feel.


wait do you mean politicians lying for the "Good" of the country....... then hell no, there has got to be some kind of check and balance or corruption will run amuck

the government does it all the time, sort of, but it still hurts the country.
i mean honestly when is an appropriate time to lie?

If its gonna cause Chaos and death along with rapes and murder because people think its the last day on earth, then lying is suggested. But if its gonna cause a bit of crying, then lying has no purpose.

Yes. This can be justified in the old testament when lies were told to protect attractive wives from besieging kings.
