So you are saying, she had cake, and then she ATE it? That very same cake? Fu*cking unbelievable.
Everything I have ever known is a lie.

This saying has changed down the years. It has been recorded as early as the 1570's but then it was "You cannot eat your cake and have it still". For some reason in the early 1800's the word order got changed around so now it doesn't seem to make sense.
Yet oddly the meaning, (i.e. what you are suggesting or trying involves two mutually opposed concepts), remains when someone uses the expression. Isn't English a wonderful language!

I means that if you eat the cake you may have a full belly but the cake is gone. The analogy means if you consume all of sometihing you may enjoy it for a moment but after that there is no more. It could also be you can't have a dollar and spend it too or you can't have a tree and cut it down too.

the English language is full of saying s that have nothing to do with original meaning. Like: The whole nine yards, any one knows what it means. or: finding a needle in the hay stack. these have changed to fit the times. or change because some one did not like it's first meaning.

I think this is a bit tongue in cheek! but just in case it isn't I'll explain.........
If you have a cake and then you eat it, then you have no cake left. Ergo- you can't have your cake AND eat.

Well that's exactly the premise of the statement: you can't have it and eat it too. Well, maybe for a short while.

Flying lessons maybe, teach it a foreign language, go out on the pull with it.
