I am thinking of starting a journal with photos of completed work, and maybe notes on yarn and changes in patterns. Do other people do this?

I keep a "Compelted Project Notebook." I photograph all of my finished projects with my digital camera, insert it into a Word document, and type my notes around it. The printed page goes into a page protector in a 3 ring binder after I glue fiber samples onto it.

I note changes I made to the pattern, things I want to try doing differently, and the dates it was started and completed. I also note who I gave it to if it was a gift for someone.

It's great to have a book like this, especially if you've given things away as gifts, because you can just pull one book out to show your friends what you've made. Much easier than pulling things off walls and digging them out of the closet!

Yes, I keep journals of all of the various craft and sewing projects that I've completed. I keep thumbnails of the patterns used as well as any pattern numbers and company names or websites. I keep swatches of material, thread, yard, lace, trim, etc., where each was purchased and the cost. I often detail any special steps that I had to use in completing some projects because sometimes I like to modify a pattern for a specific one-of-a-kind craft or project. I also set up and photograph before, during and after pix of my projects because sometimes I post them on a blog or group website to share with others who have the same interests, but mainly because I like to have a concrete record of each of my different projects.

I think journaling is a very organized method of documenting my hobbies so that I can go back and reproduce the original project when an appropriate occasion arises, and I don't have to go back and figure out from scratch just how I managed to complete the initial project.

Sounds like you're organized too, so journaling would be ideal for you. You'll be glad you kept records. Good luck.

I use a small spiral bound journal with a description of the quilt I made on one side of the page and a photo of the finished quilt facing it. My description includes the block name, when and for whom I made it, the yardages of different fabrics I used, the final dimensions, and sometimes how much it cost me to make. I can't always calculate the cost because I use fabric left from other projects or that I picked up a long time ago just because I liked it.

Yes, I think it's important to do that. I regret very much not doing something like that. I've given so many handmade gifts to different people over the years. but don't have any kind of record for myself of the different projects I've made.
I recently started taking photos of my finished projects. My intention is to put them all in a scrapbook. Hopefully my future grandchildren, or their future grandchildren, will come accross the book and be able to compare the picture with the old quilt (or whatever) they have hidden up in the attic.

I do shop a mag, yet i do no longer write in it familiar. Oliver is the call of my pleasing black laptop i offered a pair of three hundred and sixty 5 days in the past and started writing in at 3 am on a trip to California. i might say I write in Oliver approximately as quickly as a week, yet this is an time-honored. on occasion that is on a daily basis, on occasion i do no longer write in it for 2 months, it genuinely relies upon. I in many circumstances write approximately regardless of is on my concepts on the time (and concepts from the day), which would be very deep, or very superficial, it genuinely relies upon. yet I write on a daily basis a minimum of as quickly as, whether that be an academic paper, an FF get admission to, a team of random concepts that appeared to circulate jointly, a observe to post on facebook, or one among my infamous smut writings. And definitely, each and each of those is like my own very own each and on a daily basis magazine, because of the fact each and each each and on a daily basis writing, no rely what it particularly is, relfects my temper. What approximately you, do you hold a mag?

I made a book, from a website, and record which homemade card and book I send people, so I don't send the same card next year on their birthday. I've also taken digital pictures of my homemade books.

yes. When I don't I'll forget little details about what went right or wrong, small reminders of shortcuts or little modifications to the pattern, etc.
