It might hurt Hulk, but it could not kill Hulk. And I doubt that it would hurt Hulk that much. The effectiveness of the Penance Stare is based on knowing the difference between right and wrong. Hulk is too much a child in his mind, he is a big crybaby, a two or three year old throwing a tantrum and wanting everybody and everything to go away and leave him to do as he pleases.

The problem is, he is so big and strong that his tantrums ‘work’. Hulk will never grow to emotional maturity and the level of inward adult responsibility it takes to repent, or do penance; thus the Penance Stare would be rejected by the Hulk as just an attempt to make him feel guilty. To the immature and selfish Hulk’s mind, if he does not ‘feel’ guilty (which he refuses to do) he cannot ‘be’ guilty.

Of course that is not true, but it satisfies him. You can just imagine any criminal in the country saying to a judge, “Why of course I plead not guilty. I don’t FEEL guilty!” He would get he book thrown at him, because he really, inwardly knows better. I’m not sure the Hulk does. But that is part of his origin: as a child he was so abused by his father that when he absorbed the gamma rays, he became so strong that nobody would ever be able to ‘punish’ (discipline) him again. Sadly, the first step of adulthood is to learn to accept correction and discipline. Hulk refuses.

I would like to see it happen. Maybe, by some supernatural means, the Penance Stare might work. Then Hulk might grow up inside, and learn to control his rage, and then he woul dno longer change whenever he got angry, and the world would be a safer place.

Excellent question but I think that there isn't only one true answer. Everything that has to do with two comic book hero characters battling it out is very controversial. There will always be people saying he could've or he would've. With that said I agree with what you are saying, nothing is truly indestructible, everybody and everything has a weekend. I think taht the penance stare might just be Hulk's weakness.

As long as the penance stare used on somebody with souls it should work.

The penance stare is effective only if the Hulk is guilty of innocent blood. As a superhero,it probably has no effect? on him.

And deprive him from that top honor of being tarred and feathered revealing the the cutting-part Presidential leather-depending thong he wears with his chaps on the weekend even as him and his friends spank youthful male interns and writing pardons to be signed now or contained in the destiny.
