Nothing to worry about at all...this is done routinely now....they just get family history..yours and his...your nationality, religion etc..to see if you are at a higher risk for certain genetic diseases....I was freaked out to when they said I had to see a genetic counselor...but when I got there she told me it was something done routinely now....so nothing to worry about...Good Luck!

Usually, they'll do genetic counseling because in your initial paperwork you stated a family history of a ethnic type that is generally prone to certain conditions (eg: Jewish people can carry genetic factors for Tay-Sachs disease; African-American people can carry the genetic factors for sickle cell anemia, etc.), OR you presented a family history of certain medical conditions that have a genetic qualifier.

As far as you know, your family is ok until proven otherwise. Don't panic; look at this as an opportunity to learn more about yours and your husband's genetic heritage. When I had my genetic counseling, my husband and I discovered (rather happily) that my genes actually cancelled out a blood disorder he inherited, so our children won't have the same risks that he does as they get older.

well genetic testing can be done for lots of reason. don't forget the child you conceive has genes from both parents and families. Also the mothers age, or if there is diabetes, high blood pressure or any genetic problem that could be brought on by your genetics and the fathers genetic components.
