Illegal drugs, prostitution, organ selling...These are all proscribe in most of the United States.
Yet...
Alcohol, working for wage, abortion...These are perfectly legal.

Does anyone else see an inconsistency? Should not we have the ability to do whatever we want with our bodies? Is it not our property? Should the government have the right to tell us what to do with our bodies?

Help me understand this idiocy.

*Keep in mind that freedom to deal with personal property should not also conflict with anyone else's property and right to live.*

To clear things up, I did not present whether or not I believe any of the examples are a personal or moral problem for me, I just used them as an illustration.
Also, to the STD prescence in prostitution, I posit that STDs are prominent with prostitutes BECAUSE it is legal to sell one's body for sex. It is just like any other business, the seller would provide as good a service as possible, in this case, it would be in the best economic interest for the woman/man to make sure they're clean. Think about it, would you want to go to a bordello known to employ prostitutes infested with AIDS?

A good example is in the few counties in Nevada where prostitution is legal. Of registered prostitutes that are active, 0% have STDs since they are required to have periodic checkups.

Also, if drugs were legalized, they would be open to regulation, which would make it a much less risky business while increasing competition.

No, we do not have "full rights" to our personal property, even our own bodies, here in the U.S.A. But neither does anyone else, in any other nation-state, here on earth. At present.

There is a movement... libertarianism says that we all are sovereign over our own bodies, and that we have the right to do whatever we want to do, so long as we do not initiate force or fraud on any other person.

This idea of personal sovereignty is relatively new... even the politicians elected in the U.S.A. don't seem to recognize it, even though it is straight out of the mouth of Thomas Jefferson.

Me, I vote libertarian, except when I can vote Dem or Rep to defeat an intrenched foe of liberty.

It's a two egde sword, Drugs are illegal because the pushers sell to minors, Prostitution is dangerous to others due to STD's, desparate people would sell organs for drugs and sex and booze.
There is some inconsistancy, but needed laws affect the total population.
Some people feel they can do 100 mph and that are good enough to be safe, but thats just not so,

I wouldn't want to live next door to a druggie or a prostitute. I can only imagine if people were allowed to sell organs. You may be killed for your body parts instead of for money to get drugs. Everyone knows there's a bad element that goes along with these activities.
Alcoholism is a big problem in our society and I think abortion should be illegal too but we don't live in a perfect world now, do we?
Should it be illegal to work for a wage? Some lazy people act like it is, anyway you lost me on that one...what're you smoking?

You dont want people working for wage? What does that mean. And prostitution is legal in Nevada. And organ selling is harmful to others, because the minute its legal, some nutjob is going to start killing people and selling their organs on Ebay. Not sure you're onto something as you thought.

The issues get absurd. It seems like a paranoia of everyone together as a whole and their values and gas money. Normal rights and personal property gets overlooked all the time. Asking for help is most likley just chatter and a waste of time. Be smart, love thyself before others, god helps those that help themselves, seems to be what "it" asks for.
