Hi Hon
The cramps could be nothing more than constipation and since you mentioned you haven't had a bowel movement in 3 days and then the stool was really hard at first, then constipation would be my guess. The softer stool immediatly following could just be something that you have eaten.
To prevent hard stools ( and cramps) make sure you are drinking plenty of water ( I know it's the most boring drink in the world but your body really needs it and it helps to keep you regular). If you ever have cramps and ANY bleeding then you get yourself off to the Doctor or hospital IMMEDIATELY and don't let anyone send you home until you are completely s satisfied that you and your baby are safe. Nothing wrong with demanding a second opinion before you ever leave an emergency room!!

I would get checked by your doctor just in case. It sounds like it could be from constipation which is more than common (almost always), but if the ham was deli meat (not cooked until steaming) then it is possible you could have listeria. However, I would not jump the gun and think it was, but just to be on the safe side I would call and ask. I would not think however, you would notice that that quickly if it was. Constipation is very common in pregnancy as diarrhea can be. It may be nothing (and very well could just be pregnancy symptoms), but it is better to be safe. Most doctors offices are happy to answer any questions you may have. Constipation and diarrhea are both common, but if you feel like this is deeper than diarrhea (which can cause can bad cramping), or constipation (which can cause some cramping as well) please do not hesitate to call the drs office.
19 weeks pregnant with first and drs and doctors office knows me by name because I asked so many questions at the beginning of pregnancy. It did put my mind at ease and I didn't worry as much (though being pregnant there is always something we worry about) and have been reassured that these things are normal or something to be concerned about.
I would say to call your doctors office first. If it is constipation or diarrhea they will normally recommend what to take over the phone. If they feel it is important to come into the office (such as food poisoning etc), they will let you know as well. Just tell them what you ate and the symptoms you are having. Nothing is an odd question when it comes to pregnancy and the things your body goes through. I think every pregnant woman at one time or another has asked their doctor whether this is something to worry about or whether certain things were normal. I think it's one indicator that you will be a great mom and the doctors will know it is your concern for your child.

You may have exposed yourself to salmonella poisoning, E-coli or food poisoning.
When pregnant, avoid all processed foods such as ham, polony and soft cheeses, or any foods which are being kept warm for periods of time, such as chiko rolls or cooked chicken. There may also be the risk for contamination depending on whether the place that prepared /sold the food has good, safe food handling policies. (ie: Do they handle money and food with the same hands..??)
Food poisoning can cause harm or death to the baby, so it's a serious issue. But don't freak out, as you may have simply had a nasty ending to your constipation. See your doctor if it continues, or you also start to vomit.
PS iron tablets (ferrous sulphate) can cause constipation, if you've started these on doctors advice, try to increase your fibre in your diet to counteract the symptoms. I drank a glass of prune juice daily. I wasn't keen on the taste, but it works.
EDIT:
If it was a once off, chances are you are fine and it was just the constipation coming through. If you have repeated bouts of diarrhoea and you feel unwell or are vomiting, see your doctor right away.

its not gross...its pregnancy. haha welcome to the wonderful world of pregnancy hun. when you pregnant your body will react differently to some foods than it usually does. I used to LIVE on spagettios and ravioli. I can't eat it now because of the horriable diorrhea it gives me! The flu has also been a REAL pain this winter. It could be a number of things but i dont think there is anything to be alarmed about. You may want to call your doctor if it doesn't get better in the next 24 hours because you can get dehydrated and thats no good when your pregnant!!! If your concerned...theres never a wrong time to call the doctor! No question is one that they havent heard!

I had diarrhea the first few months off and on. I think thats normal. I cramped as well. Also I produced alot of stomach acid (bile). It is really yellow. I wouldn't worry about it unless it continues for a few days. Your body is adjusting to its changes so weird things are going to happen. Unless your bleeding or having unbearable pains, give it a few days to go away on its own. It very possible is just your body's new way of reacting to certain foods.

Don't worry - your baby is probably fine - you are most likely just dehydrated and constipated, it's very common to become constipated at this stage.
Try making sure to drink 6 glasses of water a day and maybe start taking Metamucil.
You can always call your doctor nd be sure to mention this next visit.

Sometimes you get constipated when your pregnant. So don't worry about the 3 days of not going. It sounds like the baby might not have liked what you ate. Either that or it gave you the runs. Either way stay away from it for awhile.

I don't know exactly why this happens, but, hopefully I can ease your mind a little when I tell you my stomach did somersaults all through my pregnancy. I was either in the bathroom for 3 hours, or not for 3 days. However I did express my concern to my OB, and he told me its normal, and something that a lot of women experience through their pregnancy. I would just ask the OB in depth, and see what he says.... unfortunately, most anti diarrheals and laxatives can not be taken during pregnancy, but, try Metamucil.

Please, I've heard alot worse than that! lol.... Sounds like what you ate just didn't quite agree with you. If you feel better now, then you're fine and that was your body's way of ridding itself of something nasty. And the cramps were partly because of having been constipated (something that happens alot during pregnancy, believe me). If you still have cramping/pressure or more diarrhea over the next couple days, call the doctor, but I really think you're ok. Good luck and congrats on the baby!
